Olga Gagauz leads research activities at the National Institute for Economic Research of the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova. Since 2017, she has served as Editor-in-Chief of the scientific journal Economy and Sociology, which promotes interdisciplinary research on socio-economic development in Moldova and the wider region.
She is recognized as a national expert on population and development in Moldova, with nearly three decades of experience in demographic and sociological research. Her primary areas of expertise include population dynamics, fertility trends, international migration, population aging, and intergenerational support systems.
Dr. Gagauz has played a pivotal role in developing official demographic projections for Moldova, including the country’s first government-requested projection in 2024. She actively contributes to the formulation of evidence-based public policies and collaborates closely with national institutions and international partners.
In addition, Dr. Gagauz mentors young researchers and contributes to both national and international academic networks.
